New Gateways, Field Tools, and a Smart Filtration Win
Welcome to the RAKwireless Bulletin – August 2025 Edition.
This month’s roundup focuses on tools and insights from the field. Learn how engineers are solving real deployment challenges with WisGateOS 2 Extensions, explore new episodes of the Meshtastic Designer series, and see how a smart filtration network scaled from manual checks to global deployment. Plus: our WisGate Connect gateways are now officially listed by the mioty alliance.
Let’s jump into the updates!
Product Update

WisGate Connect for mioty®
Our WisGate Connect for mioty® industrial and mioty® industrial-LoRaWAN® hybrid are now officially listed by the mioty alliance. Both devices offer low‑power, long‑range connectivity via mioty, and the hybrid model adds a LoRaWAN® concentrator for dual‑protocol flexibility. Rugged enclosures and multiple backhaul options (Ethernet, WiFi, PoE or optional LTE) make them ready for harsh environments.

Video Tutorials & Guides

Meshtastic Designer Series Episode 4 – From Prototype to Production
In the finale of the series, Prateek and Ken go beyond selection and show how to turn an idea into a product. They cover firmware, software integration and scalable manufacturing, proving that hardware selection is just the start.

Meshtastic Designer Series Episode 3 – IoT Customization Made Easy
Ready to build a device without studying datasheets? Episode 3 shows how Meshtastic Designer replaces technical jargon with plain‑language goals like “GPS tracking” or “air quality monitoring.” You’ll see Prateek’s frustration with traditional spec sheets, get a step‑by‑step demo from Ken Yu and hear ideas for future features like Modbus support and on‑screen dimensioning.
Field Insights & Edge Tools

Why WisGateOS 2 Extensions Matter in the Field
Field deployments aren’t theoretical, they face real issues like dropped LTE, frozen WiFi, and noisy LED indicators. WisGateOS 2 Extensions aren’t just nice to have, they’re essential.
Common workarounds like:
- Scripts to reboot LTE when it fails
- Cron jobs to restart WiFi
- Manual LED configuration
…are no longer needed. These daily challenges are now solved with clean, optional modules directly in the WisGateOS 2 interface—no SSH, no firmware mods.
Current highlights include:
- Failover Reboot: auto-restart LTE when all links fail
- WiFi Reboot: restart WiFi based on ping or HTTP checks
- Solar Battery: monitor battery health
- LED Control: suppress LED noise, show only critical alerts
Currently, 11 extensions are available, and more are on the way.
Success Stories & Use Cases

Smart Filtration: From Manual Checks to Real‑Time Data
An industrial air‑filtration provider in the UK replaced long‑distance service calls with a smart network built on RAK3172 nodes and RAK7268V2 gateways. Each node connects up to three pressure sensors and sends data to a cloud dashboard via LTE or Ethernet. Today, more than 30 sites with over 400 devices operate autonomously, and the solution is expanding internationally.
- Challenge: technicians had to visit sites to determine if filters needed replacing
- Solution: deploy battery-powered RAK3172 sensor nodes and RAK7268V2 gateways to send data to AWS IoT Core and a custom dashboard
- Outcome: automated alerts, fewer service trips, reduced waste and expansion to Germany, Australia, New Zealand and the USA
